seattleites, PDXers and Pac-NWers: a friend of mine had his Ibis mountain bike stolen this weekend. keep an eye out. it appears this is part of a larger round of thefts that extends from downtown to ballard as i heard from coworkers today with similar stories. the common theme was that the theft felt very targeted: going after specific brands of bikes even if they were locked up while leaving other unlocked bikes alone and/or cutting security areas, be it cutting through doors in some cases to cutting cable locks or picking locks. stay vigilant!
Welp, my Ibis was stolen from my garage this afternoon. Keep an eye out Seattle peeps. instagram.com/p/WFSvdeNtQ5/ (cc @seabikeblog @gomeansgo)

BTW the asshole took the time to pick the fucking lock and neatly wrap the cable up that was holding it down.

It was locked up inside a locked garage. Pretty shit-tastic.

Hey gang, if you use @strava or something similar turn on the privacy radius (strava.zendesk.com/entries/209444…) …

… it’s been suggested to me that I might have been targeted by posting my rides since it’s easy to figure out where I live and that I ride.

if you’re on strava, as Joe suggests, i’d recommend turning on the privacy zone, and if you’ve named your bike the brand of your bike, change it to something else!
a bay area cycling friend, jenny oh hatfield, has experienced theft (2x) and put together a good post on what to do if bike theft happens to you. a highly recommended good read.
